I was tasked with designing for two flight attendants in their mid-20s. The site was a lot the size of a parking space, located in North Chicago. Their busy, adventurous lifestyles inspired the inclusion of solar panels to store energy while they’re away. To maximize space, each floor was shifted in alternating directions, which not only opened up the bedrooms and provided room for their own bathrooms, but also created shade for the rooms below and allowed for integrated storage in the kitchen and living area. This strategy gave the home space for two full wet-room showers, a pull-out couch for guests, and a Juliet balcony on the third floor.
